First thoughts.

Put it on paper Dad, write it down…………….

Never written anything in my life before, only letters that had to be written, and that was not one of my favourite activities when I came home from work, just a nice dinner and perhaps if I was lucky, a pint in front of the tele’.

Where do you start? It was bad enough getting used to retirement, I felt guilty, can you believe that? What could I do with myself? I should be at work!

All my life I had woken up with the dawn chorus, shaved, washed, had a quick breakfast and then toddled off to earn a crust, never dreaming it would all come to an end one day, and I would be, as they say, not wanted anymore.

I found I had time to talk, to think without worrying about the clock ticking, and the everyday chores that we all take on in life could be left till tomorrow, or even the next day.

I started to draw again; I took the cover off my lovely keyboard and stroked the ivories that I had neglected for so long. The garden was a mess, so one day I spent the whole day weeding, and what used to be a task I found myself humming as the weeds filled the bucket.

But to write! Now that did give me the shakes. So forgive me if my diction or English is a bit rusty. Last time I did an essay was fifty odd years ago, and if my memory serves me right it cost me detention, while all my mates were out down the wreck having a good time.

Anyhow, that’s how it all started, as time goes on I will post all the different ways I pass my time, you hear the youngsters say they are bored? I don’t have time to be bored; in fact there aren’t enough hours in the day for me now, but I am enjoying my life in retirement, loving every minute my eyes are open.

Be back soon.
